Chinese news station unveils world’s first female AI news anchor, China’s Xinhua expands news anchor
China’s Xinhua state news agency on Sunday used a lifelike robotic news anchor that mimics human facial expressions and mannerisms to present a story about delegates attending an annual parliament meeting arriving in Beijing.
The artificial intelligence robot named “ Xin Xiaomeng ” sported a short haircut and wore a pink blouse and earrings in a one-minute video presentation by Xinhua. Xiaomeng is lifelike, blinking and adjusting her hands as she speaks into the camera. Save for some rigid mouth movement, she could pass for the real thing.
Xinhua also unveiled an improved version of its AI presenter Qiu Hao, named Xin Xiaohao, who is able to gesticulate in a natural manner and read the news while standing up.
The digital anchors offer certain advantages over humans, Xinhua previously said. They are available to work 24 hours a day on its official website and various social media platforms.
